The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water

Yehey!!!  We got an invite courtesy of Stratworks Marketing Communications and Jollibee to watch the new SpongeBob SquarePants movie - Sponge Out of Water.  We were given four tickets, so every member of the family was able to watch and enjoy it last April 5, 2015 at SM Muntinlupa.

Not only that, free meals were also given and boy what a meal it was.  Each of us was given Jollibee's newest burger sensation, the Cheesy Bacon Mushroom Yum complete with french fries and drinks.  Although it may not be a Krabby Patty and Krabby Fries with Seafoam Soda, it really made our day a great day indeed.

If only the people of Bikini Bottom can just taste the Cheesy Bacon Mushroom Melt, they just might turn their attention to this one, most specially Plankton.

Now back to the movie at hand.  After almost 11 years since the first SpongeBob SquarePants Movie which was released last November 2004, the new SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water is here to make us laugh once more with all the familiar characters we grew up with. Back on the big screen are SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Plankton, Sandy Cheeks and the whole of Bikini Bottom.  The new movie was ably directed by Paul Tibbitt and Mike Mitchell.  The story was done by Stephen Hillenburg and Paul Tibbitt and was made by Paramount Animation, Nickelodeon Movies and United Plankton Pictures.  The movie has a running time of 92 minutes.  Although it was released last February 6, 2015 in the United States, Sponge Out of Water was just released here in the Philippines last April 4, 2015.

If you would compare the original film to this one, it has better animation. It successfully combines 3-D with traditional animation and live-action. The end result of the movie was a very funnny blend, that successfully creates a happy-go-lucky atmosphere that viewers of all ages, young and old alike, can enjoy. Story-wise, however, I think the original movie has a better plot. In this installment, it focuses once more on the stolen Krabby Patty Secret Formula, but unlike the original movie, which gives a slightly heart-warming feel, this one uses more flash and less substance. Much of the humors come from its visual style, which would make a few people dizzy with its use of eye-popping visuals and graphics. Regardless, this is still an enjoyable flick for all ages. Not only that, Antonio Banderas' character might give you a huge chuckle or two, especially since in my opinion, he is not only good in action movies, but he is also a talented comedian.

Here, we rejoin our aquatic friends on a mind-boggling journey to retrieve the Krabby Patty Secret Formula from Burger-Beard, played by Antonio Banderas (Puss In Boots) who was able to obtain a mysterious and magical book that can make stories written on it come true.

There are a few problems though. Plankton and Spongebob are blamed for the disappearance of the secret formula, and the two must team-up if they ever want to go back to Bikini Bottom. Not only that, with the lack of Krabby Patties, Bikini Bottom is now a desolate wasteland.

To restore order, Spongebob and friends must unite in the surface, especifically Salty Shoals, a beach community where Burger Beard has converted his small pirate ship into a food truck selling Krabby Patties, to reclaim what was stolen, and maybe break a few chunks of reality along the way.
