Seven Movie Scenes Worth Remembering in the Guardians of the Galaxy

I just had the opportunity to watch Guardians of the Galaxy last night, and I said to myself "why, why did you missed such a good movie".  The movie, like what all the reviews have said were true.  It's good, entertaining, great, enjoyable, humorous at times, action-filled and most of all worthy for a part 2.
The movie is directed by James Gunn and also stars Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as the tree humanoid Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as the the blue-skinned leader of the Ravagers - Yondu Udonta , Karen Gillan as the cyborg Nebula, Djimon Hounsou as the Kree hunter Korath the Pursuer, John C. Reilly as Corpsman Rhomann Dey, Glenn Close as  Nova Prime Irani Rael, the leader of the Nova Corps
and Benicio del Toro as Tivan the Collector. But while watching it, I seem to remember other memorable scenes from other movies, a dejavu perhaps. Here are some films I remembered while watching the Guardians of the Galaxy:

1.  Using the Walkman
source
Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) loves listening to his music that is why his handy walkman is always on his side wherever he goes.  Hearing music makes him do his job better and tends to soothe his nerves and calms him down.

The same can be said to the 1986 movie titled Iron Eagle starring Louis Gossett, Jr. and Jason Gedrick as Doug Masters.  Doug Masters also has his handy walkman always close by because listening to music tends to make him concentrate and focus better.

2.  Opening Scene - Finding Lost Artifacts

source
At the opening scene of the movie, Peter Quill is in the Planet Morag looking for an artifact, an orb to be specific.

source
The scene somewhat reminds me of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones at the opening scene of the 1981 action-adventure movie Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was directed by Steven Spielberg. Jones was in Peru inside a booby-trapped ancient temple looking for a golden artifact/idol.

3.  Space Chase Scene

After their escape from prison in Kyln, the group goes to Knowhere, a remote space outpost, planning to sell the orb to a buyer.  Ronan suddenly arrives and chaos breaks lose.  Gamora tries to escape the frenzy in a small pod but was pursued by Nebula with a group of fighters.  The escape was difficult because there were lots of space debris that were scattered all over.

The space chase was reminiscent of the scene from the sequel of the Star Wars movie, the 1980 film, The Empire Strikes Back. The Millennium Falcon was being pursued by a group of Death Squadron, Darth Vader's  personal fleet of Star Destroyers at the Hoth Asteroid.  The scene was very fast-paced and each pilot must dodge incoming colliding rocks and asteroids that were criss-crossing their paths.

4.  Fight Between Nebula and Gamora
source
The ensuing battle between Nebula and Gamora on board the Dark Aster was one of the greatest female-to-female battle in ages.
source
The first female great battle I saw was on the Part 2 of the The Mummy movie, The Mummy Returns.  The fight scene between Rachel Weisz as Princess Nefertiri and Patricia Velasquez as Meela Nais/Anck-Su-Namun was astounding. It was released on May 4, 2001 and has a running time of 130 minutes and directed by Stephen Sommers.

5.  The Inevitable Battle

source
As the Dark Aster approaches Xandar,  Quill and his team, the Ravagers with Yundo and the Nova Corps Fleet prepares an all-out-war battle against the incoming enemies.
source
In the 1996 movie, Independence Day, the counter strike against the aliens has begun.  With an overwhelming number of enemies, all remaining forces of the US States mounted an assault on the alien mother ship.

6.  Concentrated Fire Power

source
Fighters from the Dark Aster descend and start bombing and destroying the city.  Rocket Raccoon on board the Milano calls on all Nova Fleet Fighters as well the help of the Ravagers to concentrate their fire power at the incoming threat.

Just like in the scene from the 2003 movie, the third part of the Matrix installment, Matrix Revolutions that stars Keanu ReevesLaurence Fishburne,
Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving and Will Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Zion, the last human settlement, was about to be destroyed by the machines called the Sentinels.  The Sentinels were able to breach the outer wall of the settlement and are about to enter Zion through an opening on top of Zion. Captain Mifune calls on all defenders to concentrate their firepower on the incoming Sentinels.

7. Saving The Team

source
After smashing the Milano into the Dark Aster,  Ronan's spacecraft is now crashing straight into Xandar.  Groot does a noble act of protecting the team by encircling them with a cocoon-like protection to save them.

source
While in the 2004 Pixar's computer-animated cartoon by director Brad Bird, The Incredibles, Violet envelopes the entire Barr family with an invisible force field to protect them from the plummeting spacecraft of Syndrome.

source
The movie Guardians of the Galaxy also made mention of two very familiar references.

source
The first one is the popular book the Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein which was first published in 1964 by Harper & Row.
source
Quill refers to Groot as the kind and innocent giving tree because he is generous and always willing to help.

And lastly, the movie made mention of Kevin Bacon and his 1984 musical-drama movie, Footloose which was directed by Herbert Ross.
source
It tells the story of Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon), a Chicago teen who moves to a small town wherein, dancing and playing loud rock music have been banned.  Near the end of the movie, Quill made a dance move against Ronan, just delaying the time so that Rocket Raccoon can devise a weapon to destroy Ronan's warhammer thus freeing the Infinity Stone.

Thus, we come to the end of my review of a great movie and the seven referenced movie scenes that I have enjoyed watching and remembering for they indeed are worthy of being remembered.   I leave you now with Quill's dance-off challenge to Ronan. Have a nice day!
