Good Guy, Keanu Reeves

Born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1964 to an English mother, Patricia Bond and a Hawaiian-American father, Samuel Reeves Jr., Keanu Reeves' life is not that all wonderful.  His father left them when he was just about three years old.  They have to travel to different countries due to the nature of his mother's work, a costume designer and due to the fact that his mother has been married many times to different men with different nationalities.  He attended different schools all throughout his young life.  He has difficulty reading and interpreting words and symbols and suffered dyslexia.  Due to this condition, he had difficulty coping with his studies and was unable to graduate high school.

Before the big screen, Keanu Reeves started out in a coca-cola commercial when he is just 16 years old.

He made another commercial for the cereal company, Kelloggs in 1987

His first movie role was in Youngblood, which was directed by Peter Markle in 1986 starring Robe Lowe and Patrick Swayze.

Later on in 1991, he would have another movie with Patrick Swayze entitled Pointbreak, a box-office hit movie which is directed by Kathryn Bigelow.

He has such a good character that people find it very easy to work with him.  He has two movies with Sandra Bullock,

two with Rachel Weisz

two with Charlize Theron

and three with Carrie Ann Moss in the Matrix trilogy.

He has several blockbuster movies under the helm of  great directors such as David Ayer, Wachowski Brothers, Sam Raimi, Bernardo Bertolucci, Francis Ford Coppola, Kenneth Branagh, and Kathryn Bigelow, among others.

When he is not busy filming movies, he can be seen with his band by the name of Dogstar.  He is seen giving food to needy people and usually talks and spends time with homeless people in the Los Angeles County.  He has given significant amount of contributions to charities and children's hospitals and foundations to help needy kids, as well as research institutions like Stand Up to Cancer and others.

"Money is the last thing I think about"

was the words that Keanu Reeves was quoted for when he was interviewed by Hello! Magazine in 2003.  Keanu Reeves is really one of kind.  A very bankable actor, a good singer, a great co-worker and above all, a really good guy.

Finally a fan made video dedicated to this great actor.

Dateline Movie Director Spotlight - Steven Spielberg

With a career spanning almost four decades, he is considered as one of the best, if not the best director in Hollywood.  Steven Spielberg is well known for his movies: Jaws, Indiana Jones, E.T., Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Jurassic Park, just to name a few.  He was born on December 18, 1946, with a full name of Steven Allan Spielberg in Cincinnati, Ohio to parents Arnold Spielberg, an electrical engineer, and Leah Adler, a concert pianist and also a restaurateur.  He loved making films at an early age and made 8 mm adventure films with his friends.

He became a Boy Scout in 1958.  In order to attain a merit badge in photography, he used his father's movie camera instead because their still camera was broken.  He was greatly satisfied with the result and he titled it The Last Gunfight, his first 9 minute Western movie.  He was hooked into making movies ever since. At age 13, his next movie was entitled Escape to Nowhere, a 40 minute war movie.

In 1963 at the age of 16, he wrote and directed his first independent 8mm film Firelight, a science fiction adventure movie lasting 140 minutes about alien invasion.

Star Wars Episode 7 Footage!

I am a huge Star Wars fan.  When the news came out that the seventh installment of this popular franchise is in the making, I just can't wait for it to hit the big screen.  What makes me more excited is that the original characters namely Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Kenny Baker, Anthony Daniels and Peter Mayhew will be reprising their roles from previous Star Wars films as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia Organa, R2D2, C-3PO and Chewbacca, more enthusiasm and eagerness came over me.

With a tentative release date of December 2015, Star Wars fan just can't wait to be updated of the latest happenings both inside and outside of the set.  Official and fan made posters are out with their own idea of what scene they expect to see.  Here's a couple of them.

What made me so excited about was when I saw a video circling around the Internet about a supposed Star Wars Episode 7 filmset footage.  I immediately looked at the video.  Although I was disappointed about it not being a video from the movie, but rather a fan made, it was worth it because the execution was great and I think its very cool. Just see for yourself.

The Oscar Statuette: What is it Made of?

It all started in 1928 when Cedric Gibbons, working as an art director for the film company MGM, conceived of an award design to be given in the Academy Awards.  He met a Mexican director and actor, Emilio "El Indio" Fernandez and asked him to pose nude to become the model for the statuette now known as The Oscar.  Gibbons' design was made into clay by American sculpture George Stanley, and Sachin Smith molded it into a statuette consisting of  92.5 percent tin and 7.5 percent copper and was plated in gold. C.W.  Shumway and Sons Foundry in Illinois was the original company that sculpted the Oscar. Presently R.S. Owens and Company  makes about 50 Oscar statuettes annually for the Academy.  Each Oscar statuette takes about three (3) to four (4) weeks to manufacture and weighs 8.5 pounds (3.9 kg).

Fury: The Next Brad Pitt Movie

Brad Pitt will be returning in another war movie.  Last time I saw him was in the movie, Inglorious Bastard in 2009 which was directed by Quentin Tarantino.  Set during the last days of the war, the 50 year-old actor, Brad Pitt plays the role of a US Army Sergent named "Wardaddy". He and his crew, must take his Sherman Tank called "Fury" deep into enemy territory against considerable odds and strike within the heart of Hitler's forces. Written and directed by David Ayer, (Training Day, Harsh Times, Fast and the Furious) this movie is a definite blockbuster to be released sometime in November.

The poster for this movie is in contrast with Brad Pitt's last war movie, The Inglourious Basterds wherein Pitt can be seen with eyes staring straight at the audience, rebellious and confident as against his upcoming movie wherein he appears worried, concerned and sad.

Wilhelm Scream: The Default Movie Scream?

Don't know what I'm talking about?  Click the button below and you'll know what the Wilhelm Scream is all about.

Now you know...

Most of us movie lovers surely have, in one way or another, have heard the Wilhelm Scream. The Wilhelm Scream is a pre-recorded sound effect or stock sound effect made with the intention of using it as a default scream in case nothing else has been prepared for the movie.

This sound effect is intended to be used in scenes for example, when someone is being shot, thrown when there is an explosion or falling off a cliff or a building.  In short, it is usually accompanied with scenes of killing, death, destruction, bombing, or explosion. Not a good sight really.

Its first known use is in Distant Drums, a 1951 movie starring Gary Cooper, produced by Milton Sperling, directed by Raoul Walsh and distributed by Warner Brothers Pictures. Sheb Wooley is the actor responsible for the sound effect. Ben Burtt, a motion picture sound designer came up with  the name in honor of a character in the movie, The Charge at Feather River in 1953, to a certain Private Wilhelm who was shot with an arrow.

Compiled herein are movies where the Wilhelm Scream can be heard.

Today many major motion pictures, as well as video games and cartoon films use this particular sound effect. Many famous Hollywood directors with the likes of Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Peter Jackson and Quentin Tarantino use the Wilhelm Scream in their production.

And finally a song entitled Wilhelm Scream by James Blake (just to complete the story, just found it in YouTube)
