Dateline Movies Presents: Disney's Animated to Live-Action Makeover

Source 1, Source 2, Source 3, Source 4, Source 5, Source 6, Source 7

Remember all those old cartoons you watched when you were still kids? Yeah, especially those Disney films, with princes and princesses, with castles and witches, with villains and magic. Well guess what? They're all about to be remade or rebooted. Welcome once again to Dateline Movies, and today, we'll be talking about our beloved animated flicks straight from the realm of Walt Disney himself and their upcoming updates to the big screen. Okay, this would probably be System Reboot 2.0 since we already tackled this subject with the most memorable entries in a certain post a while back. However, we are limiting ourselves to Disney's idea of relaunching some of their animated features and giving them a live-action makeover, and not reboots in general, although it may still apply here. So come, let's get ready to reboot ourselves, Disney style, and see why Disney should or should not reboot their projects.

Reasons To Remake:

1. They may be nostalgic (in other words, a money-maker).

Now don't lie to me that you have never been manipulated by nostalgia before. You may probably not have noticed that nostalgia has continuously controlled the face of the film industry. Whether if you're watching your favorite DC or Marvel flick or reliving your cherished Disney memories, nostalgia hits you hard, usually in a good way. As such, the film Pan, which is directed by Joe Wright and stars Hugh Jackman, Levi Miller, Amanda Seyfried, Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara and other talents and set to be released on October 9, 2015, is overloaded with nostalgia. Sure, Warner Bros. did this production instead of Disney Studios, but it still goes to show that the makeovers have huge potential.

Source
2. They may provide a better interpretation than the original features.

Yeah, this one would probably hurt you very much, but in my own thoughts, the animated films did not deliver quite enough. Hey, I like the original Disney films as much as you do, but it gets a little predictable as you further analyze the stories of the movies. With more ideas popping out of nowhere, Disney could give us more thought-provoking tales, but of course still appealing to the whole family. I heard Tim Burton is ready to make his own version of Pinocchio, with Robert Downey Jr. as Geppetto (kind of like Iron Man in the Avengers: Age of Ultron).

Source
3. They may add more details to the audience's favorite characters.

Have you ever had that feeling when you felt like there are some parts of a certain characters's life that is clouded in mystery? Yeah, I've been there more than once. With the large number of remakes Disney have in their schedules, its a safe bet that Disney should be focusing more on character development rather than the same happy endings that we already knew would happen. Maybe the upcoming Beauty and the Beast update, which stars Emma Watson as Belle, would let us delve deeper inside the characters' hearts and minds.

Source
4. They may give the audience a new catchy tune or more.

Disney's productions have always been noted for their melodic songs and musical numbers. Sometimes, you can sing to it, or maybe dance to it. The animated smash-hit Frozen gave us a lot of memorable songs like "Do You Wanna Build A Snowman?", "Love Is An Open Door" and the undeniably astounding, "Let It Go". These just shows that Disney is not yet done with giving us harmonic beats in their films. Maybe Steven Speilberg's upcoming fantasy-adventure movie based on Roald Dahl's novel, The BFG, might give us a smile in our faces.

Reasons NOT To Remake:

Source 1, Source 2, Source 3
1. They may make unnecessary changes to the basic concept.

Remember when I said about better interpretations about the story? Well, I may be wrong. I realized somehow that some stories are better the way they originally are. Sure, they may be experimenting on something unique, or simply forcing it to change even though that it is nearly impossible not to love the original better. The recent Alice In Wonderland tried the old Chosen One approach, but it ended up becoming nothing more than a cash grab. Maleficent attempted the classic "villain has a good side from Star Wars" cliche, but ironically turned into a walking cliche itself, and Oz: The Great and Powerful, although had a great cast and director, had a little too much fun with the CGI. Just pray that they would stick to the source material more.

Source
2. They may just be a scene-by-scene replica of the original.

The one thing I hate more than an average rip-off is a below-average, frame-by-frame rip-off. The following are the things the audience might probably say when hearing about or watching an upcoming Disney remake.

"Oh look, the good guy wins, where did I see that one before?"
"Oh my, I hope that "true love's kiss" thing can save the princess."
"Hooray, more songs that I already heard a thousand times in Blu-Ray."
"I thought they were going to do something new here?"
"Wait, they're doing a Mulan remake? But why?"
"Can't we just have something original for once?"

Do I have to explain further?

Source
3. They may not be what the audience thought (and not in a good way).

Normally, you would expect from Disney the light-hearted sweetness, sugar-coated lyrics and melodies and chocolate-coated joyful atmosphere. But imagine all of that replaced with disturbing and almost unrealistic CGI, weird and somewhat uncomfortable jokes and a whole lot of non-sense. In today's films, some directors or producers would go overboard with these things. So please Disney, choose your directors and producers wisely, especially for a Winnie The Pooh film.

Okay, I may not be a huge fan of these types of films, but this is Disney we are talking about. Sure, they may have let us down with the their three previous outings, but I think they might have reignited our interest after Cinderella. So, I believe this is where we conclude our latest post, but before we go our separate ways, I'll leave you a partial schedule of their upcoming remakes in case you're interested, similar to our video game post. Ciao!!!

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Trailer # 2

The second official teaser trailer of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is out. Although the first trailer is more about the tension, suspense and hostility in the Star Wars universe,  the second trailer is more about the Jedi legacy, its effects and aftermaths.

The second trailer is just out in a month but it now has garnered 52,000,000 plus views.  Although the movie is set to be release in December 2015, the eagerness, enthusiasm, and yearning of all is really awesome.  The movie reunites the original characters namely Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

source
At the end of the trailer, I already saw Han Solo and Chewbacca, and boy it really made my day. I love sequels wherein the original characters are included. It gives a sense of continuity in the story.  It will also star British actor John Boyega, British actress Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Guatemalan-born Oscar Isaac, the very talented Andy Serkis, Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actress Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie (who plays the role of Brienne of Tarth in the HBO fantasy-adventure-drama series Game of Thrones), Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and legendary actor Max von Sydow.  The movie is directed by J.J. Abrams.  And yes least we forget, John Williams also returns as the composer.

The best reaction I have seen so far regarding the new Star Wars trailer is from Matthew Mcconaughey.  Take a look...

Don't fret Matthew Mcconaughey, you're not alone, that was my dad's reaction too.

Seven Movie Scenes Worth Remembering in the Guardians of the Galaxy

I just had the opportunity to watch Guardians of the Galaxy last night, and I said to myself "why, why did you missed such a good movie".  The movie, like what all the reviews have said were true.  It's good, entertaining, great, enjoyable, humorous at times, action-filled and most of all worthy for a part 2.
The movie is directed by James Gunn and also stars Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as the tree humanoid Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as the the blue-skinned leader of the Ravagers - Yondu Udonta , Karen Gillan as the cyborg Nebula, Djimon Hounsou as the Kree hunter Korath the Pursuer, John C. Reilly as Corpsman Rhomann Dey, Glenn Close as  Nova Prime Irani Rael, the leader of the Nova Corps
and Benicio del Toro as Tivan the Collector. But while watching it, I seem to remember other memorable scenes from other movies, a dejavu perhaps. Here are some films I remembered while watching the Guardians of the Galaxy:

1.  Using the Walkman
source
Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) loves listening to his music that is why his handy walkman is always on his side wherever he goes.  Hearing music makes him do his job better and tends to soothe his nerves and calms him down.

The same can be said to the 1986 movie titled Iron Eagle starring Louis Gossett, Jr. and Jason Gedrick as Doug Masters.  Doug Masters also has his handy walkman always close by because listening to music tends to make him concentrate and focus better.
source
2.  Opening Scene - Finding Lost Artifacts

source
At the opening scene of the movie, Peter Quill is in the Planet Morag looking for an artifact, an orb to be specific.

source
The scene somewhat reminds me of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones at the opening scene of the 1981 action-adventure movie Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was directed by Steven Spielberg. Jones was in Peru inside a booby-trapped ancient temple looking for a golden artifact/idol.

source
3.  Space Chase Scene

After their escape from prison in Kyln, the group goes to Knowhere, a remote space outpost, planning to sell the orb to a buyer.  Ronan suddenly arrives and chaos breaks lose.  Gamora tries to escape the frenzy in a small pod but was pursued by Nebula with a group of fighters.  The escape was difficult because there were lots of space debris that were scattered all over.
source
The space chase was reminiscent of the scene from the sequel of the Star Wars movie, the 1980 film, The Empire Strikes Back. The Millennium Falcon was being pursued by a group of Death Squadron, Darth Vader's  personal fleet of Star Destroyers at the Hoth Asteroid.  The scene was very fast-paced and each pilot must dodge incoming colliding rocks and asteroids that were criss-crossing their paths.
source
source
4.  Fight Between Nebula and Gamora
source
The ensuing battle between Nebula and Gamora on board the Dark Aster was one of the greatest female-to-female battle in ages.
source
The first female great battle I saw was on the Part 2 of the The Mummy movie, The Mummy Returns.  The fight scene between Rachel Weisz as Princess Nefertiri and Patricia Velasquez as Meela Nais/Anck-Su-Namun was astounding. It was released on May 4, 2001 and has a running time of 130 minutes and directed by Stephen Sommers.
source
5.  The Inevitable Battle

source
As the Dark Aster approaches Xandar,  Quill and his team, the Ravagers with Yundo and the Nova Corps Fleet prepares an all-out-war battle against the incoming enemies.
source
In the 1996 movie, Independence Day, the counter strike against the aliens has begun.  With an overwhelming number of enemies, all remaining forces of the US States mounted an assault on the alien mother ship.
source
6.  Concentrated Fire Power

source
Fighters from the Dark Aster descend and start bombing and destroying the city.  Rocket Raccoon on board the Milano calls on all Nova Fleet Fighters as well the help of the Ravagers to concentrate their fire power at the incoming threat.

source

Just like in the scene from the 2003 movie, the third part of the Matrix installment, Matrix Revolutions that stars Keanu ReevesLaurence Fishburne,
Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving and Will Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Zion, the last human settlement, was about to be destroyed by the machines called the Sentinels.  The Sentinels were able to breach the outer wall of the settlement and are about to enter Zion through an opening on top of Zion. Captain Mifune calls on all defenders to concentrate their firepower on the incoming Sentinels.
source
7. Saving The Team

source
After smashing the Milano into the Dark Aster,  Ronan's spacecraft is now crashing straight into Xandar.  Groot does a noble act of protecting the team by encircling them with a cocoon-like protection to save them.

source
While in the 2004 Pixar's computer-animated cartoon by director Brad Bird, The Incredibles, Violet envelopes the entire Barr family with an invisible force field to protect them from the plummeting spacecraft of Syndrome.

source
The movie Guardians of the Galaxy also made mention of two very familiar references.

source
The first one is the popular book the Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein which was first published in 1964 by Harper & Row.
source
Quill refers to Groot as the kind and innocent giving tree because he is generous and always willing to help.

And lastly, the movie made mention of Kevin Bacon and his 1984 musical-drama movie, Footloose which was directed by Herbert Ross.
source
It tells the story of Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon), a Chicago teen who moves to a small town wherein, dancing and playing loud rock music have been banned.  Near the end of the movie, Quill made a dance move against Ronan, just delaying the time so that Rocket Raccoon can devise a weapon to destroy Ronan's warhammer thus freeing the Infinity Stone.

Thus, we come to the end of my review of a great movie and the seven referenced movie scenes that I have enjoyed watching and remembering for they indeed are worthy of being remembered.   I leave you now with Quill's dance-off challenge to Ronan. Have a nice day!

Dateline Movies Presents: Top 5 Movies of Arnold Schwarzenegger

When one thinks of action movie stars, the first person that naturally comes to my mind is the "Austrian Oak", Arnold Schwarzenegger.  With those big biceps of his and menacing looks, actions and explosions on screen will definitely follow.  So without much further ado, herewith are Arnold Schwarzenegger's Top 5 highest grossing films:

5.  Twins
source
Starting the countdown is not an action movie but a comedy movie - Twins, that partners Arnold Schwarzenegger with comedian Danny DeVito.  It was produced and directed by Ivan Reitman and also stars Kelly Preston, Chloe Webb and Bonnie Bartlett.  It was released on December 9, 1988 and has a running time of 105 minutes.

source
It tells of two twins, Julius (Arnold) and Vincent (DeVito) Benedict that were separated during birth.  They were the result of the US government experiment of developing the perfect genetic child.  But instead of developing just one embryo, it splits into two.  The result were the birth of two completely different and opposite twins.

Arnold and Danny would pair again in the 1994 movie Junior which was also directed again by Ivan Reitman.  Arnold has a total of three films that was directed by Ivan Reitman - Twins, Junior and Kindergarten Cop in 1990.

4.  Total Recall
source
Next on our list is Total Recall that was released on June 1, 1990 and has a running time of 113 minutes.  It was directed by Dutch born Paul Verhoeven who also directed the popular film Robocop.  The movie is based on the story written by Philip K. Dick titled We Can Remember It For You Wholesale.

source
Also starring on this film are Rachel Ticotin, Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside
and Ronny Cox.  The movie also did well on the 63rd Academy Awards winning 1 of the 3 categories it was nominated in.  It won the Special Achievement Award for Best Visual Effects for Eric Brevig, Rob Bottin, Tim McGovern & Alex Funke.

The story revolves around Douglas Quaid and his mysterious dreams about the planet Mars and a woman living there.  He travels to Mars and founds out that he is a former secret agent whose memory was removed and that everything that he does and have, including his wife is not real.

3.  True Lies
source

Partly based on the 1991 French comedy film La Totale! which was written and directed by Claude Zidi, True Lies is written, screen played, produced and directed by James Cameron. It also stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, Bill Paxton, Art Malik, Tia Carrere, Eliza Dushku, Grant Heslov and the iconic star Charlton Heston. It was released on July 15, 1994 and has a running time of 141 minutes. It was nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects category but unfortunately it didn't win. It was a great film however for Jamie Lee Curtis, winning for her the Best Actress Award at the 52nd Golden Globe Award and the Best Actress Award at the 21st Saturn Awards.
source
In this movie Arnold Schwarzenegger plays the role of Harry Tasker, a computer salesman on one side but acts as a double agent for the Omega Sector of the government tasked to perform covert operations against terrorist.  He uncovers a plot by Palestinian operatives known as the Crimson Jihad, to sow terror and destruction on the United States.

2. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

source
Unlike in The Terminator and its sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, James Cameron no longer directs and writes the third installment of the Terminator franchise.  A new director,  Jonathan Mostow takes over.
source
The film also stars Nick Stahl, Claire Danes and Kristanna Loken.  It has a running time of 109 minutes.  It has an opening day gross of $44,041,440 and a worldwide gross of $150,371,112.

After failing to eliminate Sarah and John Connor, another terminator was sent. This time, a female terminator, a T-X was sent. It is a more advanced version of the T 1000 complete with more built-in weapons and more advanced liquid metal exterior whose main purpose is to eliminate John's future wife, who is the resistance's second in command as well as majority of the resistance's officers.

1.  Terminator 2: Judgment Day

source
And now the number one movie for Arnold Schwarzenegger which was also written, produced and directed by James Cameron and released on July 3, 1991, Terminator 2: Judgment Day also stars Linda Hamilton, Robert Patrick and Edward Furlong.
source
It has a running time of 136 minutes and was distributed by TriStar Pictures. Its opening day gross is $31,765,506, while its total worldwide gross is $ 204,843,345.

In the second part of the Terminator franchise originally released in 1984, Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the cybernetic half human/half robot T 800, but this time he is on the good side trying to protect John Connor's mother, Sarah, as well as young John Connor from a menacing and rather more advanced terminator, the liquid-metal and shape-shifting T 1000 played by Robert Patrick.

The movie also did well in the 64th Academy Awards winning four of the six categories it was nominated in. It won the Best Make Up Award for Stan Winston and Jeff Dawn, Best Sound for Tom Johnson, Gary Rydstrom, Gary Summers and Lee Orloff, Best Sound Editing for Gary Rydstrom and Gloria S. Borders and the Best Visual Effects for Dennis Muren, Stan Winston, Gene Warren Jr. and Robert Skotak.

Another movie that is worth mentioning and I think is Arnold's best is the movie Predator which was released on June 12, 1987.  His role in this movie fits him very well.  He is the only person capable of doing a hand-to-hand combat with an alien.

How about you?  What's your favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger movie?

Dateline Movies Presents: A Salute to Cinematic Girl Power!

Have you ever watched a movie wherein you enjoyed all the action, but then you suddenly realized and asked yourself this question, "Why isn't there enough girl power?" Welcome once more to Dateline Movies, and today, we'll discuss the possible lack of female protagonists in several films, or the stereotyping of the said gender. As a movie blogger, I noticed that in several films, women are often made as minor characters in films, but I believe they should have a spotlight on their own. So while we cook up more Spotted! posts, join us, as we discuss whether or not there should be any room for female protagonists!

Reasons To Have Female Protagonists

1. They may create something new.

Out of all the brightest possibilities of having female protagonists, this one has to be the best. Originality is one of the core things movies these days are completely lacking in. Whenever you watch a flick nowadays, you would probably predict what's going to happen next or in the end just by reading the synopsis, looking at the trailer or oddly, staring at the poster. You know it is going to be a really terrible film if everyone knows the story by just staring at a piece of paper. So why not add something new into the mix? Female protagonists in a story are less prone to falling into stock character or stereotype territory. Just watch the trailer for Tomorrowland, which stars George Clooney, Britt Robertson and Hugh Laurie and from The Incredibles director, Brad Bird, and see something new and exciting.

Source
2. They may increase gender equality in the field.

One point of criticism in some films is the lack of females. If women were present in the film, they are often portrayed in a cliched manner, often portrayed as side-characters to the male protagonist. However, more and more female leads are marking their spot, both in the big and the small screen. A handful of these include the classic films and even a few shows like the upcoming AKA Jessica Jones, which is a part of the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe and will star Krysten Ritter, David Tennant, Mike Colter, Rachel Taylor and Carrie-Anne Moss. This show, similar to Agent Carter, another Marvel show, proves that girl power exists even at the most masculine film or series.

3. They may become popular icons.

One thing that is unique for a lead woman is that it is often more memorable than the more masculine type. Sure, male protagonists are often remembered for their stereotypical macho, heroic and charismatic attitude, but the women are honored for their intelligence, wit, kindness, or simply put, their human spark. Okay, I don't have any charts or research to prove that, but admit it, you probably recognized at least half of the characters from the picture above. From the brave heroines in comics, to the amazing fighters in the video games. From the spectacular icons in young adult fiction, to the adventurous chosen ones in film and the awe-inspiring leads in anime, there is no reason not to have any girl power in the world!

Reason NOT To Have Female Protagonists

Source 1, Source 2, Source 3
1. They may be mishandled.

The problem with most female-lead flicks is that it is often mishandled. The studios often green-lit several projects and would often overlook the stereotypes that they are inserting into their films. As a result, most women are portrayed as somewhat of an eye-candy, instead of being an independent character. Have you ever watched Elektra? How about Catwoman or the Resident Evil series? If you have watched any of these films, then you would know what I mean. I get that they are adaptations and are meant as different interpretations, but if you also knew what these characters were like in their respective source materials, then you would once again know what I mean. Aside from this...well, actually there aren't really any other problems, besides the carelessness. So hopefully movie makers would be more mindful on how they portray their female protagonists.

Well I guess that's a wrap. So who's your favorite female lead?

But wait, what day is it today? Oh yeah, it's Mother's Day. I would like to wish my blogger mom a Happy Mother's Day! Stay classy, Mom! That's my mom there! Woo-hoo!

Spotted! Part 5: Suicide Squad

Source
Suicide Squad (2016)

Rated NR: This film currently has no rating

Genre/s: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Adaptation, Superhero, Science Fiction, Spies

This film is to be released on August 5, 2016 (US Release Date, Available For Worldwide Viewing)

Writer and Director: David Ayer

Starring: Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Cara Develigne, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis

Bad never looked better! Welcome once again to Dateline Movies, and today, we'll be discussing DC's third installment in their universe, Suicide Squad. Okay, I am quite cheating here. Yes, this movie still does not have a plot or a trailer (apart from some leaks and some posts), but it would be a mistake not to at least talk about this film. And here it is for our fifth Spotted! post, the Suicide Squad.

What we saw in the trailer?

Government agent Amanda Waller, played by Davis (How To Get Away With Murder), assembles the world's most sinister criminals in a prison known as Belle Reve. Known as the Suicide Squad, each member of the team has been given the task of doing much of the government's dirty work in exchange for a chance to reduce each of their rather quite lengthy prison sentences/terms.

A few of the candidates for the program include Deadshot, played by Smith, Captain Boomerang, played by Courtney (Terminator: Genisys), Harley Quinn, played by Robbie (Focus alongside Will Smith), the Enchantress, played by Develigne (Paper Towns), and the Joker, played by Leto (Dallas Buyers Club). Fellow operative Rick Flagg, played by Kinnaman (RoboCop reboot) has been assigned to keep the squad under control. Things go awry when one of them plans to betray the entire team, and a conspiracy within the government has been discovered. Can the squad keep it together?

Spotted!: Hidden Surprises and Trivia (Spoiler Alert!)

Source 1, Source 2, Source 3, Source 4, Source 5

Source
1. No Laughing Matter: Were you a little bit shocked by the picture above? You should, because that is how the Joker should look like, creepy and masterfully intimidating, as seen in David Ayer's tweet. For our first hidden surprise, we take a look at what role will the Joker really play. Because of his unpredictable nature, it is possible that he may be the primary antagonist since Harley Quinn is only here to probably help him out to escape. He may even be a protagonist for once, but it depends mostly on what he thinks is necessary. There has been some chatter though that the Batman's nemesis may be incarcerated for the majority of the film, assisting the squad with valuable information regarding the underworld. That is the idea until a mass break-out occurred (more on that later).
Source
2. The Dark Knight Cameos: And speaking of Batman, Ben Affleck was "spotted" (Saw what we did there?) on the set of Suicide Squad. Although several hints were given that he'll be a secondary focus in the story, meaning that he may be targeted by the squad for a time, but no one has confirmed yet that he may even have a cameo in the film. Does this mean Batman will be fighting the Suicide Squad?
Source
3. Superevil!: In another possible cameo or full appearance, Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor was hinted that he may be the primary target of the Suicide Squad, saying that he has someone very valuable that is now considered a property of the government. According to a source, Lex has obtained a certain Suicide Squad member, the Enchantress to be exact. There is a tip that the Joker may be asking for some help from Lex to be able to escape prison, or the Joker being a pawn in Lex's plan that involves several bombs in Gotham City, just like in Assault on Arkham (more on that later again). Either way, it would be interesting to see the two in a partnership.
Source
4. Mr. and Mrs. Joker: Apart from Will Smith's Deadshot (more on him later) and the Joker being two of the most focused characters in the film, there is another one that is said to be the major protagonist of the movie, Harley Quinn. The reason for her place in the team is currently unspecified, apart from being a psychotic criminal who knows a thing or two about killing. Remember the bomb conspiracy with Lex and the Joker? Well, who do you interrogate in a certain crime? You question someone very close with the suspect, with that suspect being the Joker. This means that Harley Quinn is only in the squad to locate or disarm the bombs (if the bomb plot is even true). Also in the end, it is said that she may double-cross the entire team to the Joker in order to escape. Is it possible that the Joker asked Amanda Waller to recruit Harley Quinn so that he can escape?
Source
5. An Eye For An Eye: Okay, I know some of you may have their own perspective on Will Smith's casting as Deadshot, but let's face it, you know somehow he can pull the role off. Come on, he is charismatic enough and an incredible wise-cracker. He can definitely do this properly. But enough about the actor, we're here about his character. A source posted a photo of Will Smith in a possible Deadshot civilian outfit, alongside another costumed figure, which is possibly an alternate suit or, as several Internet users claim, a Checkmate operative. For those who don't know it, Checkmate is a division headed by Amanda Waller, that mostly handles metahuman threats and goes with a trademark, namely Chess-based strategies and rankings. In addition, he may be trying to assassinate Lex Luthor, but failed and was apprehended.

Recently, David Ayer released an official look of Deadshot. See if you may like it.

For more information on Checkmate, click here.

6. Follow The Leader: We now all know that Joel Kinnaman will play Rick Flagg in the film, who may be the appointed leader of the pack. What is interesting to note though is that he may be the real bad guy as well. Whoa! Honestly, I have know idea why because even as a comicbook reader, I always see him as a hero, even though I haven't read much about him. It is said that he is simply following orders from his father, Rick Flagg Sr, who may be played by Ed Harris, although the real reason is still shrouded in mystery. It is too bad though that both Tom Hardy and Jake Gyllenhaal turned down the opportunity to play as Rick Flagg.

For more information on Rick Flagg Sr., click here.

Top Row (From Left to Right): El Diablo, Black Manta and Doctor Hugo Strange

Middle Row: Killer Croc, Deathstroke and Plastique

Bottom Row: King Shark, General Wade Eiling and Slipknot
7. The Bad and the Brutal: Man, the spotlight really is on the villains in this movie. As recently confirmed, the film will be used to debut the villains who will be crossing paths with the other heroes of the DC Universe. Remember that entire jailbreak part with the Joker? Well, as it turns out, the villains breaking out would lead to their clashes with various heroes, and it looks like that the Joker or maybe even some members of the Suicide Squad may have a chance to escape. Since there are a lot of them, we'll show you all of them, as our last hidden surprise. Also, some of you may be curious as to why I did not add any of the other members in the cast. The reason was that it is possible that they may not be the primary focus of the film, and they are likely to be there for some instances only.

A. El Diablo: This fiery convict is a possible candidate for the Suicide Squad, as it was confirmed that he will be spending much of his time as a member. Jay Hernandez will portray El Diablo.

B. Black Manta: The brother of the King of Atlantis, Aquaman, Black Manta has always been a thorn in the side of several well-known superheroes. Although this is only a rumor, it is possible that he may be a part of the team or incarcerated. Common is rumored to play Black Manta.

C. Dr. Hugo Strange: A crazed and menacing psychiatrist, it has been mentioned several times that Hugo Strange may only be there to consult the Joker while the Joker remains in his cell. Ike Barinholtz will portray Hugo Strange.

D. Killer CrocLooking almost a lot like Marvel's the Lizard, Killer Croc was supposed to be a human, until a reptilian kind of disorder transformed him. He is a part of the squad. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will portray Killer Croc.

E. Deathstroke: For all the Arrow viewers out there, you probably knew Deathstroke and he would definitely be here, and no it's not Manu Bennett (probably). Deathstroke's purpose in the team is to be the eyes and ears of Amanda Waller, aside from Rick Flagg, as well as to ensure that nothing bad would happen. Deathstroke's appearance has, sadly, been dismissed.

F. Katana: Another one for the Arrow fans, Katana is one of the tertiary characters in the current season and is played by Rila Fukushima. She is also a full-time member, and though she may not be a villain, her attacks can kill you in a single hit. Although previously set to play PlastiqueKaren Fukuhara will portray Katana.

G. King Shark: This one is just a possibility, but he may be a future member. King Shark is a giant shark humanoid who may be one of Lex Luthor's lackeys. Raymond Olubowale will portray King Shark.

H. Gen. Wade Eiling: Although not really much of a member, Wade Eiling played a huge part in the Suicide Squad's comicbook history. He may only be here as a contractor on the squad's targets. Gary Sinise is rumored to portray Wade Eiling

J. Slipknot: Coming straight from the bottom of DC's barrel, Slipknot is a bizarre supervillain, who can turn any rope he possess into something powerful and indestructible (I'm not kidding). He is also a member of the squad. Adam Beach will portray Slipknot.

K. Killer Frost, Livewire and Blockbuster: These three are mostly cameos, and are rumored that they will appear in future installments of the DC Universe Film Series. None of them are confirmed to appear in the movie. Since there are several identities who have taken each mantle, it is unknown what incarnations will be present.

L. Steve Trevor: Although he may not be a bad guy, he may have a potential role here or yet in another film. Yet another cameo, Steve Trevor is to be remembered as the boyfriend of Wonder Woman and a government agent. Scott Eastwood will portray Steve Trevor.

M. Jonny Frost: A henchman of the Joker, Jonny Frost may have only appeared once in the comic world, but he has played one important role, he being the Joker's driver. Although initially believed that he will play as Deathstroke, Jim Parrack will portray Jonny Frost.

N. Plastique: Lastly, this one goes to the Flash fans out there. Plastique is the explosive femme fatale who can make anything that she touches combust. Platique's appearance in the film is currently unknown, unlike Deathstroke's.

Well that was fun. Hopefully the Suicide Squad will be a brilliant supervillian film, since it probably is the first time a group of bad guys get the spotlight. I guess this is where we part ways again. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Have you ever wondered what Jack Nicholson (who previously played the role of Joker in the 1989 Batman movie opposite Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne) felt about Jared Leto's Joker role? Well look no further. Just watch the video below. Thank you and Sayonara!!!
