Who Should Be In Spider-Man: The New Avenger?

Source
Spider-Man has been rebooted again, but look on the bright side, he will be an Avenger! Welcome once more to Dateline Movies, and today, we'll talk about who should be in the upcoming and anticipated addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: The New Avenger / The Spectacular Spider-Man, depending on what Marvel thinks is suiting for their film. With the recent failure of the Amazing Spider-Man 2 (even I am disappointed myself) there is no doubt that Sony would make another reboot nobody asked for. Fortunately, Marvel and Sony struck a deal that the two will collaborate in making Spider-Man an Avenger, who may be fighting the Sinister Six. One question remains though, who should be in the film? Well, that's exactly what we'll be talking about here. With Spider-Man now an established hero prior to the events in the movie and the Sinister Six probably uniting to kill him, there is no doubt that many people may fit perfectly for any role, but these are whom I suggest.
The Main Cast

1. Asa Butterfield as Peter Parker / Spider-Man

You knew this was coming. Fans everywhere often say that he is the actual Peter Parker because come on, just look at him. He definitely fits the bill for a young Spider-Man. If you watched his other films such as Hugo and Ender's Game, you might just see how Asa Butterfield can easily fill-in Spider-Man's shoes!

2. Tom Felton as Harry Osborn / The Green Goblin

Okay, maybe almost all of you are praying that Matthew McConaughey will play the Green Goblin (no offense but I think I see him more as the Norman Osborn who pretended to retire from being a bad guy type), but I have a feeling Marvel might hold off on Norman for a while, and instead put the spotlight on Harry, Peter's best-friend turned enemy, who I think should be played by Tom Felton. Now why is that? There's...

1.) It's a safe bet that the Sinister Six that was set-up in the Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be used in this film. This is also proven with Drew Goddard's rumored involvement here due to his connection to the planned Sinister Six film.

2.) Tom Felton played Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series, so you can say he already has an experience in being in the dark side, and...

3.) For comicbook readers, you know Norman just needs a distraction, especially if you heard of his part in the Dark Reign story arc.

3. Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius / Doctor Octopus

Of course, no fan-cast is complete without the astounding Alfred Molina's portrayal of the menacing, Doctor Octopus. As the founder of the Sinister Six in the comics, Doc Ock, as he is often called, remains to be a thorn on the web-head's side for years, even going as far as killing him (temporarily of course). You might have heard that he is willing to reprise his role if he is offered? Come on Marvel, ready that paycheck.

4. Ron Perlman as Aleksei Sytsevich / Rhino

Maybe a handful of you have mixed responses towards Paul Giamatti as Rhino last year, but for me it was okay, and it was sadly wasted (so did Dane DeHaan's talents as Harry Osborn) on an overstuffed series of craziness. But let's not rely on the past, and let's look into the future. I think Ron Perlman makes a pretty good Rhino. Sure, the Rhino may be Russian in the comics, but if you watched Enemy At The Gates, you might have heard his Russian accent in a convincing manner. Plus, he played Hellboy. Speaking of Hellboy, Ron Perlman needs your help in making Hellboy 3!

5. Johnny Depp as Quentin Beck / Mysterio

I had a hard time deciding this one. At several points, I considered Neil Patrick Harris to be the perfect Mysterio, but he looks more a lot like the Riddler from DC Comics. So I chose Johnny Depp as my suggestion to play Mysterio, who is a stunt-man and illusionist turned villain, because if you have watched a few of his better movies like Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and maybe Transcendence (a little), you know he could portray a slightly wacky, at the same time an intimidating character. Also, he desperately needs a hit, so what better way to receive that than to join Marvel?

6. John Malkovich as Adrian Toomes / Vulture

This one is no contest. For the real Spider-Fans, you might have done your research and found out that John Malkovich was originally set to play the Vulture in Sam Raimi's scrapped Spider-Man 4, alongside Anne Hathaway as the Vulturess, an original character for the movie. If you look closely, he does look a lot like Adrian Toomes, Spidey's oldest foe so far. If you haven't heard of him, a few of his best performances include Being John Malkovich, In The Line of Fire, Burn After Reading and just recently RED.

7. Sharlto Copley as Sergei Kravinoff / Kraven the Hunter

This one maybe a little hard to picture for a few, but if you have watched District 9 (or any of the films Neil Blomkamp directed), you could notice that Sharlto Copley has a distinctive and sometimes disturbingly convincing acting style. In Elysium, he almost looks a lot like Kraven the Hunter, who is an insane big game hunter aiming to grab Spidey's head. The accent may confuse some readers, since he is Russian in the comics, and at one time Australian, but from what I've learned from a lot of articles, race never mattered as long as the actor stays true to the source material!

8. Saoirse Ronan as Mary Jane Watson

This one became more of a wild guess for me because for one thing, there aren't much actresses who may capture the essence of Mary Jane Watson, Peter's love interest. Well I enjoyed her performance in a few of her films like The Lovely Bones and Hanna, even though the latter had a vague ending, so I think that's enough for me to be convinced that she might actually be perfect as Mary Jane. Besides, this film needs someone who at least has the same age as Asa Butterfield, if he is set to play the role of Spidey.

9. Maggie Smith as Aunt May Parker

Hey, what's this? Another Harry Potter actor (actress in this case) in your fan-cast? Well, yeah, but that doesn't mean I'm Harry Potter biased. It's a great film franchise, and an amazing book series, even though I have watched or read just some of them, but I recall of Maggie Smith's performance in the film series. In my mind, she seems to have the appearance and wisdom of Aunt May, Peter's beloved aunt.

10. J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson

This one is no surprise to anybody, even for the ones who don't read comics. Academy Award winner, J.K. Simmons has been showered with praise for his performance as Peter's boss in the Daily Bugle. You can even hear him doing voice-overs for this character in the animated series The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble! With his appeal and charisma, no one could imagine a J. Jonah Jameson not played by J.K. Simmons, but thankfully, he has expressed a huge interest in returning to the role, similar to Alfred Molina.
Honorable Mention/s:

1. Jim Carrey as Cletus Kasady / Carnage

There were a lot of rumors swirling around that Jim Carrey would be playing in the Amazing Spider-Man 2 after he was spotted in the set. Sadly, we didn't saw him. However, since Marvel and Sony learned to work together, we might see Carnage fighting Spider-Man soon, but not until we see a perfect Venom (although I didn't include him here since I have no idea who fits as the best actor to play Venom). Although this may seem unlikely due to his disapproval of excessive violence, especially during the promotion of one of his films, there is still a chance he could play that character because come on, it's Marvel! If not, then I should thank that one person who suggested Jackie Earle Hayley to play this role because he might be the one. Of course this film may be overstuffed if he joins in, but maybe he'll be there as a cameo maybe, just like the Lizard?

2. Dylan Baker as Curt Conners / The Lizard

Dylan Baker played the role of Dr. Conners before Rhys Ifans took it on The Amazing Spider-Man. Although his role was really small, Sam Raimi wanted him to be the lead bad guy in the scrapped Spider-Man 4 (before moving onto the Vulture). It would have been amazing. Dylan Baker was disappointed after hearing the project being cancelled, and just maybe, Marvel could offer him the role again!

Just to clarify, this is not an official list, this is just a wish list of a few people I'd love to see in the film. We'll just have to wait until this Spider-Man Re-Reboot on July 28, 2017! Who else do you want to see in the film?
