Hunger takes many forms. Welcome back to Dateline Movies, and with Halloween fast approaching, we better take a look at a film that would give us a good scare. Fortunately, Solar Pictures has sent us an email for their upcoming horror flick, Ghoul. Yeah, I haven't heard of it either until now, because this was a Czech-exclusive movie before the worldwide release.

What is the movie about?

Jenny, Ethan and Ryan, played by Armour (24: Live Another Day), Isabella (CSI: Miami) and Tracey (Castle) respectively, travel to Ukraine to make a documentary about everything that is needed to be known about cannibalism.

The trio come face-to-face with a survivor of a cannibal outbreak long ago and are now being haunted after unleashing the spirit of Chikatilo through Katarina, played by Golovlyona.

Say what you want about the trailers, or even compare it to an Ed Wood production, but I'd still try to watch the entire movie. Remember, don't judge a book by it's cover, even with its overused shaky camera shots and an almost too familiar story. We're not going to be harsh here because that comes out later on when we review this. Besides, the story behind the actual killer is truly terrifying. As said in the trailer, simply Google, Ukrainian Cannibal Chicatilo to learn more, or simply go to Wikipedia and type-in Andrei Chicatilo.

Herewith is an interview from director Petr Jakl promoting the movie, Ghoul, as provided by Solar Pictures.

Czech director Petr Jákl, once a stuntman in American movies, has come a long way from his roots in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He started out with roles in foreign films in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s and quickly found a spot in Hollywood playing supporting characters in movies like xXx and AVP: Alien vs. Predator. Not content to stay in front of the camera, Jakl has now written and directed two of his own projects.

Eric Shirey (Cinelinx) had the opportunity to interview Mr. Jakl while he was busy promoting the film. They talked about the rich history, superstitions, the supernatural leanings of the Ukrainian people, and more about the background of the movie Ghoul. Read on to climb inside the head of this up-and-coming director, writer, producer, and actor.

How did you get involved in Ghoul?

“Back in 2010 we went to the Ukraine to attend a festival. I had a chance to speak to some villagers and all of them mentioned famine in 1932 and the cannibal Chikatilo. It was very interesting because they spoke about cannibalism like it was something that was part of their life. I started to investigate more about it and I found more connection between the famine and Chikatilo. I also like the Ukrainian habits and how they believe in psychics, they are superstitious, and a lot of the people there also believe in supernatural forces. I decided to use those as much as possible and blur the lines between reality and fiction. Nobody will be sure what is real and what is not. That’s why I bought the real footage of the cannibal Chikatilo. That´s why I shot a real documentary with survivors of the famine that is used in the movie. I also shot the movie on the real locations where these horrible things happened and where Chikatilo was born.”

Give us a brief synopsis of Ghoul.

“Ghoul is a supernatural horror and also partly a thriller film involving the real life story of the Soviet Union’s most violent serial killer and cannibal. Andrei Chikatilo killed more than fifty people. Three Americans travel to the Ukraine to film a documentary about the cannibalism epidemic that swept through the country during the famine of 1932. They have chosen an area from which many more people are disappearing for no apparent reason. After being lured deep into the Ukraine forest for an interview with one of the last known famine survivors, they quickly find themselves trapped in a supernatural hunting ground.”

Tell us a little bit about your experience making Ghoul.

“I wanted to find actors who were not well known, but they had to be great. That's why I did the casting in seven countries for almost six months. I had one actress from London, two actors from LA, and the others were Ukrainians. When the actors from California got to Kiev, they were pretty scared right from the beginning because they knew that we were going to shoot in real locations where people were killed. We had to go to the frontier zone between Russia and the Ukraine every day. Border police told us not to go alone to a forest because there are wolves and bears and that we should avoid speaking to strangers there and such. We had mostly night shoots in the forest. Some situations were really scary during the shooting because we thought that somebody was watching and we could not get rid of that feeling. I think it also helped to build a real atmosphere for the movie and it was a part of my plan.”

What sort of message (if any) do you think Ghoul is trying to deliver to audiences?

“I have to mention that we started to shoot Ghoul in 2011 before the Ukrainian Revolution and before “the conflict” between Russians and the Ukrainians began. There was no political reason to show a Ukrainian cannibal eating people and his connection with the famine caused by Soviet Union leader Josef Stalin. I just wanted to make the movie so real that people would feel like they are in the Ukraine in danger. That’s also why I interviewed real people and let them say what happened. Their stories about cannibalism are extremely horrifying because they are true.”

If you were in line at the movies and someone was trying to choose between Ghoul and the other movies playing, how would you convince them to see yours?

“I would say, ‘Would you be scared if you were in a cottage in the middle of a forest far from any civilization and Charles Manson or Jeffrey Dahmer would be outside watching you?’ That’s how you will feel when you watch “Ghoul.” The two of them together are not as brutal and dangerous as Ukrainian cannibal Chikatilo. He killed and mutilated more than fifty people and he ate their parts. He was extremely brutal so people nicknamed him the Red Ripper. When you watch the movie you will be surprised who is really out there waiting to get you!”

Well I guess that's a wrap for this soon-to-be-released thriller movie. Do watch it and bring your friends (a couple of them) on November 11!

GHOUL will haunt theaters throughout the Philippines beginning November 11.

Movie Fact: I Dream of A Terminator

The Terminator films have been noted for it's large and one-of-a-kind storytelling, as well as it's expansive universe. Recently, however, with the release of Terminator: Genisys, it looks like the franchise's glory days are long gone, but that does not mean those days won't be remembered. Until today, the first Terminator movie has been widely praised, with many pondering how did James Cameron came up with such idea. Ponder no more, because...

Source

It sounds as if James Cameron himself had an Inception-esque experience.

This is according to Wikipedia. When the film Piranha II: The Spawning, James Cameron's first film, was in production, he caught an extremely high fever, and eventually became bed-ridden. While he was knocked-out from the sickness, he eventually received a nightmare wherein a metallic robot was dragging itself away from a fire, while carrying knives.

"I was sick and dead broke in Rome, Italy, with a fever of 102, doing the final cut of Piranha II." said Cameron in an interview. "That's when I thought of Terminator. I guess it was a fever dream." According to him as well, his source of inspiration back then was John Carpenter, the director of such classics such as Escape from New York, Halloween, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China and Assault On Precinct 13.

Man, if he could get really great ideas while he's sick, then maybe I could too! Here's a 20-Minute video on the making of the original Terminator!

Movie Fact: The Path of the One

The Matrix Trilogy has been noted as one of the most influential and, formerly, the most bankable film franchise around. Even with all the religious analogies and references, you might think that no one on this Earth would take the film seriously. Guess what my friends, you are wrong! Why are you wrong? Because...

Source
No, it's not a glitch in The Matrix. You read that right. There really is a religion based on the film series.

According to Wikipedia, this movement also goes by the name "The Path of the One", and they not only base their beliefs on the movies and other companion pieces themselves. They also extend their thoughts to The Promulgation of Universal Peace, and some aspects 'Abdul'l-Bahá's journey in United States of America. Just research that on your free time, because that part is beyond our knowledge.

The group was founded around the year 2004 by an unknown group of individuals, and in 2005 they claim to now have 600 members in total. Matrixists carry only four beliefs known as "The Four Tenets of Matrixism". First, they believe in a messianic prophecy. Second, they make use of drugs? Third, they see reality as more than what it seems. And fourth, they respect other religious beliefs.

source
Their symbol is the Kanji figure for red, painted in the said color. This is said to be a reference to the red pill taken by the Keanu Reeves character Neo to see the truth in the first movie.

Say what you want about this fact, but we'd say it's true, because for one thing we already have enough evidence to back me up. And besides, who knows...

The Force Awakens Final Trailer And Poster Revealed! (Spotted!: Part 6.5)

I sense, a new trailer within the Force! Welcome back, good people of the world to Dateline Movies! We know that you might be saying, "Yet another Star Wars post? Are you guys running out of ideas?". No, no we aren't. Let's be honest here, the trailer was too good not to talk about or breakdown! So let's not waste anymore time, and let us continue our Spotted! Part 6 with a shot-by-shot observation of their latest preview! But first, let's have a look at the masterpiece that is the poster!

Spotted! Hidden Surprises and Trivia (Spoiler Alert!)

7. Picture Paints Nostalgia: The official theatrical poster for the much awaited movie of the year is out. We can see Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2D2, C3PO and Pricess Leia right in the middle, on the lower left are X-Wing Star Fighters and on the lower right the Millenium Falcon, TIE Figthers and Imperial Star Destroyers. New characters Kylo Ren, Rey and Finn dominate the upper portion of the poster and another new character Poe Dameron stands on top of the Star Wars logo. Unfortunately Luke Skywalker is missing! Where could he be? There have been claims that he would be the new Obi-Wan Kenobi for the new trilogy, being the mentor to the new trio of adventurers! Does this mean he'll die earlier? Please no, Mark Hamill is too cool to die early in a possible film series.

source
Here is the new trailer of the movie. It really looks mesmerizing.

What we saw in the trailer?

8. "Who are you?" - Princess Leia Solo: Well, this is Daisy Johnson's Rey, as evidenced by her outfit and the scene's setting. For those who probably don't know who she is, Rey is a scavenger searching for items lost in the war. In this scene, we see her exploring a large, abandoned vessel that has been left behind from the events of the original trilogy. Is this the Millenium Falcon or an Empire or Jedi battleship? If so, she may be the one to discover the history behind the Jedi, Sith, and most importantly, the Force.

9. "I'm no one!" - Rey: But why is she wearing a Stormtrooper outfit if she is one of the good guys? And where the heck is she? She is in Jakku, a desert planet. According to Wookiepedia, this is a desolate planet filled with various figures scrapping the remains for something to cash-in. She must have recovered a dead trooper and made use of the clothing.

And it looks like that's not the only thing she brought home. Judging by this picture, Rey may be witnessing the coming of a possible danger. It is possible that she could just be having deep thought, but then again, they are in a planet filled with treasures.

10. "I was raised to do one thing...": This is a close-up shot of clone trooper Finn. In this scene, Finn must have witnessed the New Empire's plans and sinister ambitions, and he might have realized what he was bred for. That reason is to do Kylo Ren's bidding. In the next scene, we see possibly him escaping with a TIE Fighter, and crashing into what is probably...

11. "...but I got nothing to fight for" - Finn: Jakku! Yes that's right. This is Jakku, and it is the same Jakku that is home to Rey.

Is it possible that Finn could be the very thing that made Rey bring the attention of the New Empire?

12. "Nothing will stand in our way...": Next, we see Kylo Ren plotting his plans. But where is he standing? It is possible that he could be in a rebuilt Death Star, or a fully-functioning cruiser.

This is further evidenced by the next line Kylo Ren said, with the shot of Darth Vader's destroyed helmet being held-up high. There is a strong chance that Kylo Ren could be a Skywalker, and the son of Luke Skywalker if not the least. He might have gotten to know more of the Dark Side's history, and decided to turn against the Force. It is interesting to note that the original ending for Episode VI: The Return of The Jedi is meant to show Luke becoming the new ruler of the Sith Empire. What if Luke is Kylo Ren and the actor, Adam Driver, is just his "padowan"?

13. "I will finish ... what you started" - Kylo Ren: Well, there goes that "Luke being the bad guy" theory out of the window. He might really be a Skywalker, but not Luke. He may be a descendant of his bloodline. In this scene also, we see Oscar Isaac's X-Wing Pilot Poe Dameron being tormented by Kylo Ren...

...followed by a quick glimpse of an explosion. He might be caught by the bad guys, most likely when trying to infiltrate the Empire, and Kylo Ren decided to give him a preview of what his power can do. Unless, this could be a flashback, and Poe might have witnessed the Sith attack his home planet.

14. "Those stories about what happened." - Rey: After which, we see a really exciting Millennium Falcon and TIE Fighter chase through Jakku, which I have to say is really great to look at. Could the Millennium Falcon be what Rey discovered at her home planet?

15. "Its true... all of it...": Then we finally get to see  what appears to be a now tidied-up Millennium Falcon, with Han Solo on-board? Based on the screenshot, Rey and Finn are in for a big surprise!

16. "The Dark Side, the Jedi... they're real." - Han Solo: Based on what we heard from Harrison Ford's Han Solo, we could be seeing a world wherein after years of peace, the Jedi have disbanded, leading to everyone believing that everything from the first two trilogies were fictitious works.

This has been followed by awesome "blink and you'll miss" shots, including Kylo Ren with an all-black Stormtrooper unit by his side under a heavy rain. What could they be after? In addition, what's with the battle on this certain planet? We might be seeing yet another battle on Kashyyyk with Poe and Finn, similar to that with the Ewoks on Episode VI, and with Master Yoda's escape in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

The most eye-popping of all images is the one above. Who is that hooded figure? It's the one, the only Luke Skywalker. The chosen one, and Mark Hamill's most notable big screen role. Don't believe me? Remember in Episode VI again that Luke lost his hand during his battle with Emperor Palpatine. From the looks of it, Luke might have witnessed Kylo Ren's devastation, with his companion R2D2. As such, he gains enough strength to fend-off Kylo Ren and his evil. The reason also that we may be seeing less of Luke in teasers is he might have only a minor role here, and is set to be a major player in future installments, or maybe he will die here.

17. "The force, it's all into you...": Adding more to the excitement, we also get to see more battles, but this one shows Hoth? Yes, the icy planet from Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back has made a return, plus some hyperdrive action. We also see Princess Leia and Han Solo being reunited, yet Luke is completely absent. Where is he? I'm starting to have a bad feeling he really will die here. Yeah, this will definitely happen, as evidenced by Rey's distress at what looks to be a dead body.

18. "Just let it in." - Princess Leia Solo: The last shot shows Finn and Kylo Ren getting it on in what appears to be Hoth again. Maybe their base is here. After this, we get to see the glorious title!

I guess that's a wrap my friends. Be sure to clear your Christmas schedule! But for now, let the Force flow through you.

Movie Review - Whiplash

source

Whiplash (2014)

Rated R: Restricted (For Strong Language)

Running Time: 107 Minutes (1 hour and 46 minutes)

Genre/s: Drama, Musical, Romance

Released on October 10 2014 (US Release Date, Available For Worldwide Viewing)

Presented by Sony Pictures Classics

Writer and Director: Damien Chazelle

Starring:
  • Miles Teller as Andrew Neiman
  • J.K. Simmons as Terence Fletcher
  • Paul Reiser as Jim Neiman
  • Melissa Benoist as Nicole

That's not quite my tempo. Welcome once more to Dateline Movies and today, as one of our first post-centennial entries, we'll be reviewing the award-winning film that is Whiplash. You know this film was a part of my to-watch list, and it was perfect timing that I was able to watch this with my family on basic cable.
Before anything, I would just like to paraphrase what a certain Internet user said about the film, "For a non-horror movie, this sure kept me at the edge of my seat." Now that is said and done, let's go!

What is the movie about?

Jazz drummer Andrew Nieman, played by Teller (FANT4STIC) enrolls in Shaffer Conservatory, one of the finest music academies around, to reach his dreams of becoming one of the greatest musicians of all time and lives with his divorcee father Jim, played by Reiser (Mad About You). Abandoned as a child by his mother and having no musical talent within his bloodline, Andrew spends his time listening to Buddy Rich and many more jazz legends. Andrew also visits the local theater to hang-out with his father, where he meets Nicole, played by Benoist (Supergirl), and the two later form a relationship.

One day, music teacher Terence Fletcher, played by Simmons (Spider-Man Trilogy), overhears Andrew practice on his drum set. Impressed, Fletcher invites him to his band. Andrew's excitement immediately shatters when Fletcher shows off his darker, edgier and stricter side after throwing a chair at him for rushing at a practice. Andrew must prove himself to Fletcher if he really wants to be one of the greats, but at what cost?

What we think of the film?

Acting = (5/5)

I did anticipate what this film would deliver. Even though I already had my hopes extremely high because of word-of-mouth, a thought still lingered in my head when I still haven't watched it. I disguised my skepticism with ease and my strong admiration for J.K. Simmons's acting, as I have seen in his fan-favorite portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson. After seeing him throw that chair, I dropped my guard. Simmons clearly showed he was not your average, creepy professor. He is THE above average, creepy professor, who surprisingly has a just cause. You can clearly see the intensity in his face whenever he lays an offensive one-liner or unintentionally being inspirational.

source
Miles Teller also gave a note-worthy performance as an underdog. A newcomer to the business, I had some doubts, but after seeing him here, from the bloody punches to his drum set as well as the slightly tear-jerking break-up scene, you can already see Teller has serious potential! Although his talent may be overlooked after the recent failure of the Fantastic Four reboot, there is no doubt he might get that needed break to really cement his professional acting status. Even though Paul Reiser and Melissa Benoist had small parts in the film, their performances were great and memorable. Reiser was more than a caring father and Benoist was more memorable than a loving girlfriend. In addition, did you guys know that most of the musicians really were afraid of Simmons?

Production Value and Cinematography = (5/5)

The great thing about this film is that for an indie movie, it is done splendidly. It was a great breather for us here after all the CGI-filled movies that currently saturate modern cinema. To summarize, it's simple because the crew and the director kept it that way, and that's the way we love it.

The film is shot in the simplest form possible, and that is with a few cameras and was also made in only a handful of weeks, which we have to say, is pretty great. The one thing we don't like however are the shaky camera angles, which seem unnecessary for the film. Regardless, the movie was done beautifully!

Story, Dialogues and Flow = (5/5)

The movie prevented itself from being yet another Karate Kid redo by adding seriousness and heartfelt storytelling to an otherwise predictable formula. Yes, the script has been tested and done over and over again, yet there is something truly unique about this flick that made me smile hugely even after the credits came rolling. It might be the acting or it might be because it is a simply wonderful film, but it may be because of the amount of inspiration you can get by simply watching this. Feel like you're not good enough at what you're doing after several obstacles in your life? Watch this and you'll feel better in an instant.

Ending, Originality and Story Fulfillment = (4/5)

The beginning kicked-off a one of a kind experience to be honest. The suspense was there and all the charm it could offer. However, a lot of things were familiar, as the film was based on a tried and tested concept. You would soon care less about all of it as you continue to watch this until the end. The ending was mildly disappointing. Yeah, yeah, I was not really expecting a happy ending given the tone of the film, but at least they could give some joy to our protagonist. Unfortunately, although the cinematography was amazing (with the drum tunes and orchestra music providing heavenly harmony and the two leads performances being truly highlights), they could have at least showed us what happened to Nicole. Sure, it was said she now has a new boyfriend, but we were expecting something, I don't know, a little bit fulfilling.

Overall Evaluation = (5/5)

If your ears are sensitive to foul language, then obviously this film, isn't for you, but if you have the heart and soul for a true cinematic entertainment, then this is a must see. The acting, great. The music, truly awe-inspiring. The story, all I can give is a major A+.

TOTAL = 24 / 25 (Masterpiece)

Damien Chazelle writes and directs a really, really marvelous and truly touching movie that boasts A-List talent from its two leads and an added inspiring story that will leave an impact!

Boy, reviewing this movie makes me want to watch this all over again. Be on the look out for Damien Chazelle's next project La La Land that is to be released on June 15, 2016, which will reunite the director with J.K. Simmons and with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone joining the cast.

Until then my good friends and by the way kindly try and ask yourself this simple question...are you rushing or dragging?  Take it easy folks!

Spotted! Part 10: Deadpool

Source

Deadpool (2016)

Rated R (Possibly): Restricted (For Blood and Gore, Violence, Strong Language and Sensitive Themes)

Genre/s: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Adaptation, Superhero, Science Fiction

This film is to be released February 12, 2016 (US Release Date, Available For Worldwide Viewing)

Director: Tim Miller

Writers: Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese

Starring:
  • Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool
  • Ed Skrein as Francis / Ajax
  • TJ Miller as Jack Hammer / Weasel
  • Morena Baccarin as Vanessa
  • Leslie Uggams as Blind Al
  • Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead
  • Andre Tricoteux as Piotr Rasputin / Colossus
  • Gina Carano as Angel Dust
Witness the beginning of a happy ending. Welcome to the now remodeled Dateline Movies. Surprised? Don't be. These two delayed my special post, so now, this blog has a new owner, and that is, me! After the spectacular letdown my studio handed over a silver platter, that is X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the comicbook killer 20th Century Fox made the right call by rebooting me, and finally a no-holds barred film that is strictly for the grown-ups. For the little kiddies, ask your parents' permission before being scarred for the rest of your childhood. Now, without further ado, here's the green band trailer of my very own film, because Google doesn't pay these two enough to send a link for a red band version.

What we saw in the trailers (plus the Red Band)?

Wade Wilson, that's me, played by Reynolds (Buried), is suffering and not feeling very well, and he is very desperate for a cure. If I can't find any form of salvation, I'll be leaving a great life behind, and my super hot girlfriend Vanessa, played by Baccarin (Gotham).

One day, I was recruited into a secret government project headed by Jason Statham's rip-off scientist Francis, played by Skrein (The Transporter Refueled) promising that I will be able to have some grab-bag of awesome load of powers. Unfortunately, with great power comes great irresponsibility as Francis, or Ajax, as he wants to be called, left me for dead. Now, with two slightly recognizable X-Men, namely Colossus, played by Tricoteux (Continuum) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, played by Hildebrand (Prism), my geeky BFF Weasel, played by Miller (Silicon Valley) and my mother figure Blind Al, played by Uggams (Poor Pretty Eddie), the one, the only Deadpool must hunt down the creepy stereotypical mad scientist who's definitely not General Stryker from X2, while being chased down by said person's hench woman Angel Dust, played by Carano (Almost Human).

1. It's Not Easy Being Green: For the most important part of this post (because this wouldn't be called Spotted! for nothing). The guy playing as me Mr. Reynolds has had a series of ups and downs in the filming industry, and our archenemy DC Comics's unfaithful and lackluster attempt at beginning a shared film universe was one of his lowest points. Ryan here even criticized the film, being the comicbook fan that he is. That's nice! To even show how much he hated the said movie, especially the CGI costume, I said a joke made especially for him. "Please don't make my supersuit green, or animated!" Top that DC!

2. Weapon X of Mass Destruction: It has been confirmed by my bosses that my film will be a part of the ever expanding X-Verse. To bridge this film to the rest of the already released films, the Recruiter, an agent of the organization that made the Wolverine, will be introduced here, just to signify continuity. You might remember this guy, Jed Rees, from Galaxy Quest. Wait, since Weapon X will give me powers, who else might I see in their super secret lab? Wolverine? Omega Red? Magneto? Stryker?

3. Look Before You Drive: I got to give credit to my creators for making me famous, even though I was just a cooler pastiche of DC's Deathstroke. To pay tribute to one of my metaphorical fathers, the other being Rob Liefeld, I was able to insert Fabian Nicieza in a highway sign. During that epic highway scene, you might notice that the street names could look familiar with comicbook readers. It says "Nicieza St." and "Fabian Rd." in the screenshot above. Also, to the left, you can see a signage saying "Miller Street", a not-so sneeky reference to this film's director, Tim Miller.

4. There Was A "Leak": The very reason this film exists is because of my good 'ol buddy Ryan's efforts to "leak" the greatest proof of concept I have ever seen, because it has me in it. Apparently, my colleagues at Fox were wowed by the popular demand from the fans that they green-lit the project. If you might notice there are plenty of references. Comment below if you can notice any of them.

Dad: Hey Pio, do you have the keys to the house?

Me: I thought you have them.

Whoops, I guess it's time to make my way out of here. You wouldn't think that I'd really kill these two huh? Anyway, come see my movie next year on February 12, 2016. Hopefully, it'll be the best Valentine's Day you could have.

<leaves>

Me: Hey, we must have left the computer open, and apparently someone filled in a post?

Dad: It's probably your mom.

Me: At least we have completed our 100th post, and our 10th Spotted! entry. Better say something, I guess.

Dad: Well, from all of us here in Dateline Movies, thank you guys so much! We wouldn't have 100 posts if it weren't for you guys.

Me: Make that 102, we delayed this post because of the new batch of Emerging Influential Blogs. Also, thanks guys for landing my sister in 7th place, and thank you Ms. Janette Toral for my price at the raffle at the awarding ceremonies, which unfortunately I was not able to attend!

Dad: Now with Spotted! Part 10 over, what's next?

Me: Who knows, but we'll just keep on writing. Adios amigos!

Double Win from Emerging Blogs 2015

Man, what a week this turned out to be. I missed my exams and a lot of activities in school and online as my sister and I were downed by dengue. There's this quote that says "There's always a rainbow after the rain." I'm happy to share with all of you that after all that stress that we went through, I got a double win from the Emerging Blogs 2015.

My sister's blog won seventh place in the Top 10 Emerging Blogs of 2015! I, on the other hand, was one of the ten lucky raffle winners! This is the reason why participating in this writing project is worthwhile. Thank you Ms. Janette Toral for this opportunity. 'Til Next Year!!!

My Choice for the Top Ten Emerging Influential Blogs for 2015

One of the most exciting experiences I've had in blogging is for Dateline Movies to be included in the Top Ten Emerging Influential Blogs for 2014. It did not only provide a wider audience reach for my blog but also the affirmation that there is a place for everybody including a 14-year old boy (then) like myself who simply love to write. This year, I join the Emerging Influential Blogs 2015 Writing Project in support of the commendable idea to discover new blogs that could enrich our online experience.

I present to you my choices for the Top Ten Emerging Influential Blogs for 2015:

1. Artful Chapter

This is my leading choice, not only because it is my 11 year-old sister's blog, but because it represents what young people like us can productively do in pursuit of our own interests. Between the two of us, she has always had the artistic inclination which she chose to show through her blog. What I particularly like about her efforts is her resourcefulness in making do with what is available like her simple point-and-shoot camera, left-over art materials, and fashion ideas inspired by combining the old and new.

2. Manila Concert Junkies

Being an entertainment blogger, I am naturally drawn to entertainment blogs.

3. Doctor Eamer's Blog

This blog makes a wonderful play in words for an interesting read which most of us can easily identify with.

4. Make Happy Money

The articles found in this blog are well-written and I specifically like its focus on a specific niche.

5. Best of Negros Island

This blog is highly commendable for promoting the best of a particular place as negative topics can be a bit exhausting to read.

6. Top on My List
