What the Buzz is All About With The Interview?

Source
Everyone might have heard the supposed-to-be upcoming film, The Interview, right? Okay, I know some of you did, and most of you are wishing to see Seth Rogen and James Franco team-up again. Unfortunately, the film has been pulled from every theater. Why is that? Well, we will get to that later. Welcome to Dateline Movies once again, and today we'll be tackling the most-heated controversy in filming history today. Listed below is the timeline of events that ensued.

1. The Film That Started It All...
Source

For those who are not aware of what the movie is all about, let me tell you the details. Seth Rogen and James Franco stasr as Aaron Rapoport and Dave Skylar respectively. The duo are famous for their late-night talk show, "Skylar Tonight", wherein Dave hosts the show while Aaron produces. North Korean ruler, Kim Jong-Un, played by Randall Park, invites the two for an exclusive interview with him, since he is a major fan of their show. However, the Central Intelligence Agency or CIA has other plans for them. Agent Lacey, played by Lizzy Caplan, tasks Dave and Aaron a plot so difficult, that they are not even close to being the people worthy of the job: to Assassinate Kim Jong-Un!

Needless to say, the premise itself could really attract a whole lot of unwanted attention. It might be for some, while others may contrast with a big no. The real Kim Jong-Un disapproves this movie. Of course, a movie about killing a person will obviously hurt someone. North Korean officials demand the movie to be unreleased, or face the consequence of a possible military reaction. American cinema retaliates by saying that the film may start a revolution in the Korean nations for the people to finally fight back. It was only a few, harmless debates when number 2 happened!

2. The Cyber-Crime of The Century!

"We will clearly show it to you at the very time and places The Interview be shown, including the premiere, how bitter fate those who seek fun in terror should be doomed to. Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made. The world will be full of fear. Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time. (If your house is nearby, you’d better leave.)
Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment. All the world will denounce the SONY." - The threat sent by the "Guardians of Peace" to Sony in order to prevent the release of The Interview.

Nobody likes more fuel to a fire, undoubtedly. But if someone thinks the fun is only starting, you better be prepared for some seriousness incoming. Last November 24, an enigmatic group known as the "Guardians of Peace" successfully entered Sony Entertainment's company database and leaked several valuable and undeniably classified information. E-mail accounts, passwords, future movies and employee records have been exposed to the public eye. It's a nightmare for the celebrities and staff members of the studio to have their secrets revealed. The Federal Bureau of Investigations or FBI have claimed that North Korea is the one to blame for the attack. Although the nation denies the accusation, Kim Jong-Un promised to deliver something dread to come soon.

3. Better Safe Than Sorry
As a result of the disaster, James and Seth publicly stated that the film will no longer be shown, fearing that innocents may be caught in the line of fire. As said in the threat above,  the "Guardians of Peace" may go through great lengths in order to stop the premiere. Even going as far as to mention the 9/11 incident. Some people are glad that the movie was discontinued in order to protect many civilians as possible. However, the vast majority of media figures and movie goers alike believed that this course of action is a huge mistake. People believe that censoring the movie means to surrender to another nation one's freedom of speech and creativity. Some would even say that this is cowardly. Either way, it's better safe than sorry.

4. What's Yours Is Ours...
Source 1, Source 2, Source 3, Source 4, Source 5
Like I said before, several secrets of the company have been publicly exposed. Some of which may be to humiliating to even talk about. A few of the revealed things in their little vault are their proposed ideas or scripts that may or may not be green-lit. I'll give you a short list of some of their ideas in their think-tank.

A. Doom for the Web-Head?: Following the disappointing release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony may be thinking of a possibility of rebooting yet again the Friendly Neighborhood hero, with a new lead and, as part of the Avengers? That's not all, there's the possibility of creative team Phil Lord and Chris Miller making an animated Spider-Man film that is set for a more comedic approach.

B. A Ghostly Reboot: Nowadays, people who watched the classics are now feeling more and more desperate when they watched the classics again but in a more contemporary style. E-mails originating from the attack say that an all-female reboot is on the way, as well as a spin-off for the franchise would be done.

C. Partners-In-Intergalactic Crime: Crossovers are usually overkill, so why make a crossover between the humorous 21 Jump Street guys and the slick Men-In-Black? I guess we'll never know.

D. Double Uh-Oh!: Daniel Craig returns as the legendary James Bond or Agent 007, but this time, hunting down the mysterious organization known as Spectre. Excited? Sorry to burst your bubble but the script, according to reviewers, claim it isn't as good as the premise. Think that's shocking? Wait 'till you hear who Sony thinks should be the next James Bond.

E. Memories of Studio's Past: Recently, Sony has released some good and some not so good films. Some of the leaked data included the scripts of these films. They also have a few post-production films coming out next year. Just don't read the e-mails if you don't want spoilers.

5. The Truth Hurts

Remember when I said most of the leaked data are humiliating? Well, it can't get anymore embarrassing with what the staff members of the studio think of several celebrities. Some of those inner thoughts can be considered as constructive criticism, but let's face facts, would you really calm down when someone says something bad about you? To sum up what all those e-mails said, let's just say, they're all sad for every fan who reads it, somewhat annoying to even give a peep or very or not so offensive to the people seen in the image above. Just click here to learn all about it, plus there's this whole unfairness in some of their paychecks and the slightly shocking look at they're alter egos.

6. Piracy Is The "Best" Policy

Ahoy, maties, we now reach the final and latest event regarding this whole Interview madness. Who says that honesty is the best policy? Technically, not the pirates who want the movie badly. All over the world, people are begging to watch the movie in order to experience it. Now we can, through either legal purchase from your local video rental store or illegally download the movie like a true pirate. Not just that, it seems that free speech has also won this battle since according to sources, The Interview was released in a limited scale. Close enough! I guess it's happily ever after all, right? Not so much, the Interview recently received mixed reviews as well as lack of box office to recover. Don't worry Sony, there are always times we fall.

At this time, many people affected by the attack are currently recovering and hopefully would continue to entertain us. I guess that's it for us here. Have a Happy New Year to our fellow readers!!!

DC vs. Marvel: Choose Your Side In The Battle!

Ah, superhero movies, probably one of the best things cinema has to offer nowadays, and maybe one of the reasons why I'm saving money this Christmas. It all started with a certain comic-book company known as Marvel Comics, a creative team that gave us Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk, the Avengers and other legends that has always played part in our dearest movie memories. Marvel has announced their latest entries into their media kingdom, with not only movies to offer, but television programs as well. With their announcements making us teasing for more, another comic-book publisher decides to step-up their game, they are DC Comics.  The creative people behind Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and many more classics and they are not going to settle for being second best. To counter Marvel's upcoming cinema takeover, DC has also announced their own version of a "cinematic universe". Welcome to Dateline Movies yet again, and for our Christmas special, prepare to choose on which one of the two "universes" shall triumph.

Contender Number 1: Marvel Studios

Mini-Bio: Marvel has given us several cases of nostalgia over the past decades, starting from the 60's. During the 60's as well, they did not only to make a lot of the best heroes and villains we know, they were able to top DC in their own game of chess. A few movies adapted some of their comics, but instead fell into obscurity and under critics' hate list (Films like Howard The Duck for example). However, that all changed when 20th Century made X-Men, Columbia Pictures released Spider-Man and finally Marvel made their own movie in Iron Man, and finally a shared film continuity. They have recently announced their "Phase 3" flicks, with Fox sharing with the world of their soon-to-be-released Fantastic Four reboot film, a third Wolverine solo film, a Deadpool lone-wolf adventure and an end of the world battle while Sony makes plans for a third and fourth Spidey installment, a Sinister Six and Venom spin-off and a possible female solo in their Spidey-verse. Go ahead and see more of Marvel's exciting menu selections.

From Left to Right (Movie Title): Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Inhumans, Black Panther and The Avengers: Age of Ultron

From Top to Bottom (Movie Title): Sinister Six, Deadpool, Venom/Carnage, The Fantastic Four, X-Men: Apocalypse and Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Center (Movie Title): Captain America: Civil War

Our first contender is notable for bringing in this year's Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Marvel is, and always will, deliver us the sensation and enjoyment that we will only find in their films. With Age of Ultron coming in to conclude "Phase 2", one must wonder if this will be the end of Marvel. Thankfully, it's not. Black Panther, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, the Inhumans and the Guardians of the Galaxy's second entry will be sure to make your wallets empty for the rest of the years to come.

Although Marvel has their own studio and continuity, Marvel has brought in back-up from two mega-companies, 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures. Fox has given us the slick and stylish X-Men franchise, bringing us 7 movies in total. Although there have been a few misses along the way with their attempted Fantastic Four franchise (A little underrated in my opinion), their Last Stand (Not as good as the title) and their first Wolverine spin-off (Could have used more cohesive storytelling). However, they promise to deliver us three exciting additions to the series, with the talky Deadpool, at long last, gaining the chance in the big-screen, more X-Men action, a Gambit solo outing, and a slightly risky X-Force film (Since the members are unknown to modern audiences). All of which have potential to make it big. On the other hand, Sony is not handling their hero very well lately. Sony's sub-company, Columbia Pictures made the perfect Spider-Man movies back in the day, but with Sam Raimi leaving the scene, Sony decided to take matters in their own hands. The recent release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was met with mixed reception, with the criticism aimed at the story. It may seem like a dark age for Spidey, but talks confirm that there is still hope for the friendly neighborhood web-head. Two villainous spin-offs, a third and fourth installment and a female lead-movie might just save the day. Might is a strong word, if you know what I mean. However, some of these plans may be unlikely in the aftermath of the "Sony Hack".

Excited? You better be. If no, then check the schedule below.

Contender Number 2: DC Comics

And in this corner, giving us a more realistic view of superheroic life, creating three of the most popular and influential characters of all time, rebooting more time than we can count, here's DC Comics. That's right, here they are. Nearly overshadowed by Marvel's reign of action, DC finally strikes back with a full list of planned and possible films. However, this isn't gonna be easy. Considering their reputation of taking too long to release a film, or showing several notoriously bad adaptations (Looking at you Catwoman and Batman and Robin!), DC might find it difficult to win the favor of their fans once again. Even if the Man of Steel wasn't accepted gleefully by many, if Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy concluded or if their first attempt of a shared universe is down the drain, there will always be hope. And that hope can be fulfilled with the right kind of storytelling, release dates and teaser trailers. See if you like anything in DC's proposed future projects.

From Left to Right (Movie Title): Suicide Squad, Dark Universe, Metal Men, Legion of Super-Heroes and Wonder Woman

From Top to Bottom (Movie Title): The Sandman, Shazam!, The Flash, Cyborg and Green Lantern

Center (Movie Title): Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice

DC Comics was the greatest before Marvel dethroned them. Back in the Golden Age of Comics, DC was able to publish the legendary Superman, the Dynamic Duo's first adventures and the first super heroine. However as time passed by, audiences wanted a more modern style of crime fighting. DC tried to catch-up, but their various plans of attempting to modernize was nearly done and fell through. The result was a not so good, an overly mature creation that many find it hard to see if it is even a superhero comic. Luckily, Christopher Reeves wore the tights of Superman while Michael Keaton and Adam West embraced the dark side of justice as Batman. The end received a popular amount of success, however, when Joel Schumacher decided to direct while Superman goes all the more campy, it didn't conclude in a happily ever after. But today is a new day, Christopher Nolan made his Batman and made it a legend.

DC's long-time media partner, Warner Bros. Studios will stop at nothing to make DC a juggernaut. They have made successful projects to show how DC can be great. From animated series (The oh-so unforgettable Batman: The Animated Series), to modern prime-time dramas (Smallville, and today's Constantine, Gotham, The Flash and Arrow), it looks like DC might at least return to the big screen in a huge way.

Are you excited? Go ahead and see their schedule below and see what you like.

Schedule of Planned and Announced DC Films:

Conclusion:

Exciting isn't it? Marvel might only have a few installments left before (possibly) ending soon, but hey, at least these film universes have already given more than enough nostalgia factor in all of us. DC, meanwhile, may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but let's never jump to conclusions that they may, at least someday impress us again. For you, who do you think is the best of the two?

The Defining Chapter - The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

source
From New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer, the Hobbit will return for the last time in The Battle of the Five Armies.  The first installment of the movie started with The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey in 2012 and was followed by The Desolation of Smaug  in 2013.  Peter Jackson, the director of the trilogy (also the director of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy), The Battle of the Five Armies describes the movie as the Defining Chapter of the trilogy.

Bilbo, Gandalf and the Company of Dwarves led by Thorin are forced to be involved in a war against an armed legions of Orcs' and Wargs' combatants as well as the terrifying fire-breathing dragon Smaug from acquiring a kingdom full of gold and treasures and destroying all of Middle-Earth.

source

The five armies involved in these epic battle are the Men of Esgaroth and Dale, the legendary Elves from the Elven-realm of Northern Mirkwood also known as the Woodland Realms led by Thranduil, and the Dwarves of Erebor against the fearsome and frightening armies of Orcs as well as the Wargs from the Misty Mountains.

Orlando Bloom returns as the heroic Legolas, the son of Thranduil, the Prince of the Woodland Realm, with his awesome fighting skills both in using his blade and arrow.

Luke Evans returns as Bard, the leader of the Men from Esgaroth and Dale.  Last time we saw him in Part Two of the Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, he was reaching out for his long Black Arrow.  Will he be able to kill Smaug and save Lake Town from certain destruction?

Richard Armitage is back as Thorin Oakenshield, the leader of the Dwarves. Will he be able to recover his lost kingdom, Erebor, as well as its legendary treasures?

Evangeline Lilly returns as the Silvan Elf Tauriel, the Daughter of Mirkwood, the Head of the Mirkwood Elven Guards.  Although she is not in the original story created by JRR Tolkien, she was conceived by Director Peter Jackson as an addition to an otherwise male dominated film and was well received by the general public.  Will her feelings for Kili bloom?

Lee Pace as Thranduil, the Sindarin Elf, the King of the Woodland Realms and father to Legolas.  Will he make peace with the dwarves finally?

Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, the Hobbit from the Shire, the Ring-bearer in the Hobbit trilogy.  What role will he play in the success of Thorin's expedition as well as the destruction of Smaug?

Sir Ian Mckellen as Gandalf, the Grey.  Previously, we saw him held captive by the sinister Sauron.  Will he be able to escape and provide the much needed help by Bilbo and Thorin's company in the upcoming battle.

Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, the Noldorin Princess.  Will she be able to help Gandalf escape from the clutches of the Evil Sauron?

Witness the defining chapter of the Middle Earth saga this December.  See the final conclusion of the adventures of Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin and the Company of Elves in this epic and monumental film.  For now listen and immerse yourself to the "The Last Goodbye", the official music video of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies sang by Billy Boyd (whom you may not know plays the role of Peregrin "Pippin" Took, one of the Hobbits in The Lord of Rings Trilogy).

The Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Teaser Trailer

The teaser trailer of the next Star Wars movie - Episode VII: The Force Awakens, is already out and from what I have seen, it really looks wonderful and amazing especially with the last scene wherein the Millennium Falcon is on a maneuvering position.  J.J. Abrams, the director of Star Wars Episode VII, makes me hunger and desire for more of the new film.  As a fan of Star Wars, the December 2015 release date of Episode VII, one year from now to be exact, will render me sleepless for countless nights.  Tinkering my thoughts as to what happened to the stormtrooper without his helmet at the start of the trailer, to the X-Wing fighters of the Rebel Alliance hovering over a lake, to the spacecraft owned by Hans Solo doing a 360 turn, and of course, that very formidable and very awesome lightsaber, wow!

source
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is the first installment of a supposed trilogy.  Original cast members like Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher will be reprising their roles as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia respectively.  Also included are the original cast members Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker as Chewbacca, C3-PO and of course R2-D2. The story of the new Star Wars movie is widely based from the 3 original Star Wars movies that started in 1977 with Star Wars: A New Beginning, followed by The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 and ended in 1983 with the Return of the Jedi and the prequel to the other 3 Star Wars movies that run from 1999 with the Phantom Menance, The Attack of the Clones in 2002, up to 2005 with the movie Revenge of the Sith

With all this new trailer buzz, many spin-offs/parodies you might call them, are coming out, somewhat a what-if scenario.  Just look at what the web has to offer like the following:

The first spin-off trailer are all made out of Lego materials and looking at it reminds me of the recent blockbuster Lego movie.  Great, isn't it?

The next trailer is a George Lucas' Special Edition Trailer done with more familiar characters from the Star Wars movies.

The next parody is a what-if version.  What if Wes Anderson, the director of Moonrise Kingdom directed Star Wars.  He is known for using unique and distinctive visuals and the soundtracks for his movies are mostly pop music from the 60s or 70s.

A funny parody using Disney's well-loved characters, the STAR WARS: The Force Awakens DISNEY PARODY

Next is the Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens Trailer - Spaceballs Version. It uses scenes from Mel Brooks popular spin-off comedy movie in 1987, Spaceballs.

source

This last trailer contains scenes from the Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace but the audio/sound is based on the new trailer.

I know there will be more spin-offs/parodies to the new Star Wars trailer, but all the same, they are made to make us more hungry to see the movie.
